Summer is coming up fast!
We are a little over a month out from starting to look for the first Salmon Flies of the season. Snow pack is looking great and we currently are just getting our first warm weather for the spring. All the local rivers are on the rise and it’s looks like only the tailwaters will have the clarity you will need to fish. With that being said we have some openings in June we are looking to fill (I will post below). June is one of the best months of the year to fish. Fish are hungry for a variety of reasons. Coming off the high water from spring runoff, trout have found conditions very difficult to feed so they’re starting to settle into the receding waters. Another key factor is rainbow and cutthroat trout time their spawn for peak runoff, they have been busy creating the next generation and have not had any time to eat. The last and probably most important part is the emergence of bugs and not just any bugs. Our giant stoneflies aka salmon flies start to emerge with the falling of the spring waters. Wrap that all together and you can imagine what is going to happen, some pretty good fishing. With all that being said, the rivers are still high and flowing fast, new trees have been swept down and other hazards that weren’t there pre-runoff have now showed up. It’s always good to get some local knowledge and ask ahead if you’re hitting a section for the first float of the year. I recommend calling local fly shops to get the 411 before you it the water.
